Concerned about an injury? Not sure what your son or daughter should or shouldn’t do? Many acute injuries (even minor!) can turn into chronic conditions, affecting quality of life and ability to compete. What do you want to have longer…your injuries or your trophies?
M.O.S.T. offers an athletic training School Outreach Program service to the students, parents, and coaches of 3 local schools here in Dutchess County. This program is offered by M.O.S.T. in order to provide our local students and staff easier and efficient access to quality medical care. This program was initiated in the fall of 2006, and has been very successful in helping our student athletes receive efficient, effective care for their injuries. Last year alone, a total of 364 injuries were evaluated during our once/week visits! A certified athletic trainer (ATC) makes weekly visits to each of the schools to meet with any students or staff that wish to have an injury evaluated, who have questions regarding health and wellness, or who desire consultation on strength and conditioning.
Certified athletic trainers are board certified health care professionals who specialize in preventing, recognizing, managing and rehabilitating injuries that result from physical activity. As part of a complete health care team, the certified athletic trainer works under the direction of a licensed physician and in cooperation with other health care professionals (such as physical therapists), athletics administrators, coaches and parents.
Areas of knowledge that a certified athletic trainer possess include, but is not limited to:
If you wish to see Ryan during one of his school visitations, be sure to let your coach, school nurse, or athletic director know. S/He can get you signed up!

M.O.S.T. currently has a contract providing Physical Therapy services to the Millbrook Central School District. Physical Therapy in the schools is a service provided to assist a child with a disability in the area of gross motor development and control. The school physical therapist evaluates the child's ability to move throughout the school environment and to participate in classroom activities. The decision of whether or not a child qualifies for school physical therapy is made by a multidisciplinary team that includes parents, educators, program facilitators and other special service providers.
The team gathers information about a child's functional abilities and physical development relevant to their education. The information comes from a number of sources including the parents or caregivers, direct observation, medical and teacher reports, and assessment tools. Examples of physical therapy interventions include adaptations to the school environment, working with a student on motor skills, assistance with identifying and getting special equipment, and collaboration with school staff and other professionals.
