The Value of Athletic Trainers in Secondary Schools | Dynamic Warm-Up | Nutritional Recommendations for Athletes | Recommended First Aid Kit for Coaches | Injury Prevention for Throwing Athletes
Forty-two percent of high schools in the United States have made athletic health care a priority by utilizing the services of certified athletic trainers who work under the direction of a team physician. The athletic trainer provides the school with health care coverage, risk abatement, student safety, improved relations with parents and cost savings. Parents' concerns are eased over their childrens' health and they save on medical expenses. Parents miss less work time to manage their student-athlete's health care.
Take some time to view this powerpoint, which discusses why ALL school districts should have full-time access to an athletic trainer to serve the students and staff of the district.

For years, many athletes have been taught to perform a thorough stretching routine before engaging in training, practice, or competition. While static stretches may help to improve flexibility, they do not aid in adequately “warming up” the body’s tissues and preparing the body for the rigors of athletic performance. More recently, new research has shown that performing a dynamic warm-up before activity is a much better route to optimizing performance than simply stretching.

Nutritional status can play a large part in your athletic performance. All athletes can benefit from better nutrition and proper hydration because these factors play a significant role in energy availability and utilization. Over the course of a contest, your nutritional preparation can definitely help or hurt your playing performance. You should also be aware that excessive body fat increases your risk of heart disease, joint problems, diabetes, low back pain, and many types of cancer. Additionally, excess body fat can also interfere with proper body mechanics and optimum sports performance
